Acne Bootcamp

MD Skin Science possesses a special interest in and expertise for treating acne, oily skin, and acne scarring. Over the decades that she has been treating acne, Dr. Clark has seen firsthand the harmful effects of long-term antibiotics and has discovered that the root causes of acne need to be determined and addressed.

She has developed protocols that can dramatically improve even cystic acne or oily skin in two weeks or less, as well as clear up or minimize acne or oily skin for the long-term. For many patients, even more distressing are the brown and red spots that complicate the course of an acne break-out, but these can be treated as well. Lastly, even decades after complete clearing of acne, many people suffer from mild to severe acne scarring, which can have devastating effects on one’s personal life or career.

All About Acne Treatment

Treating acne requires thorough knowledge of its core causes and why our bodies develop these pockets of inflammation. An effective approach to treating acne recognizes that there is no one-size-fits-all method for reducing breakouts or putting a stop to them entirely. Instead, Dr. Clark carefully evaluates each patient’s individual condition. She takes into consideration every possible factor that could be contributing to your struggles with acne, from genetics to diet. With a full picture of your situation, she then builds a tailored approach that addresses the core causes of your acne.

Below are some of the procedures Dr. Clark uses to treat acne and help patients achieve clear and vibrant skin.

Sebacia

Sebacia treatment works by delivering a formulation of gold microparticles to your skin which are then heated Nd:Yag laser. Gold absorbs the laser energy, heating the pores and glands that produce oil. This selective heating of the sebaceous glands results in fewer and smaller sebaceous glands, fewer acne lesions, tighter pores, reduced oil production, and an improvement in the appearance of your skin which usually begins between 2 weeks and 3 months and continues to improve over the next two years or longer.

Laser Treatments

Laser treatments are non-invasive, but they can help treat acne deep at its source. The right laser treatment can target the bacteria themselves that cause acne, reducing them before they can accumulate on your skin. Laser treatments can also reduce the production of sebum. Skin that produces too much of this oil can lead to clogged pores and eventual breakouts.

Chemical Peel

Chemical Peel treatment aims to fight acne both on the surface level and in a deeper way. First, the treatment can exfoliate your skin’s surface, removing dead skin cells and other matter that can clog pores. Additionally, the treatment can deliver nourishment such as salicylic acid to fight acne further.

Microneedling for Acne Scar

Combining microneedling with injections can generate improved results and help restore skin damaged by acne scars.

Fractional CO2 and Radiofrequency Microneedling for Acne Scar

These non-surgical treatments can improve the appearance of acne scars with long-lasting results. Patients may require a series of several treatment sessions to reduce scarring and improve their skin texture according to their goals.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are one of the most flexible non-surgical treatments available. They can raise the pitted tissue where scars are situated to create a smoother skin texture and feel.

Acne Scar Surgical Treatment

For more extensive or heavier scarring, surgical treatment may provide you the best results. Dr. Clark uses honed techniques to ensure a quick and effective procedure that delivers impressive results.

FAQ & More Info.

Sebacia Acne Treatment is designed to treat the glands that produce oil in your skin that cause acne. The full treatment consists of 3 in-office treatment sessions conducted over 2 weeks; each session takes 30-45 minutes. After each session, you’ll be able to go right back to school or work.

Each treatment follows 3 easy steps:

  • Your face is cleaned with a face wash to remove all oil, makeup and debris.
  • Then, the gold Sebacia Microparticles are massaged into your pores.
  • The last step is heating those gold microparticles that are now in your pores with a laser.

Studies show that 2 months later, there are 63% fewer acne lesions; at 6 months, 74% fewer; at 12 months, 85% fewer; and at 2 years, 92% less acne! In just 2 weeks, and with no downtime, you are on the path to clear skin!

Acne Dual is a 20 to 30-minute red light and blue light IPL treatment that is painless. The light kills the bacteria that cause acne and reduces inflammation. Patients generally find their acne is much better after two to 4 treatments which are given twice a week.

Unlike surgery, these treatments can be designed (since many do have some downtime however brief) to avoid any interruption to your usual schedule, and you can return to your daily routine as soon as you leave the office.

Dr. Clark is committed to finding only the safest treatments that are good for your skin and the health of all of your organ systems. Her acne and acne scarring treatments should not cause any severe side effects.

Sebacia: A SAFE Yet HIGHLY EFFECTIVE Alternative to Accutane

I sought out Dr. Sheryl Clark’s office because I was interested in an effective acne treatment called Sebacia. I first heard of this procedure after I tried googling alternatives, because the first GYN I went to recommended Accutane. I was not interested in going through the harsh risks and when I learned about Sebacia, Dr. Clark’s office came up first. Her staff is absolutely attentive, kind, and accommodating! Dr. Clark is also warm and is a true active listener. She recommended an acne treatment that included Sebacia, two topical treatments, and suggested certain foods to add/increase as well as limit/cut off. LOVE IT! Just finished all three sessions and I’ve already noticed a difference. The active acne and hyperpigmentation I have has decreased, and the oil production I normally have has also become very minimal! That says a lot because I’ve always had oily skin and since I have to wear a mask all day everyday for work, my “mask-ne” has almost fully ceased! Highly recommend!

I cannot reccommend Dr. Clark enough

I have been a patient of Dr. Sheryl Clark for over five years and believe that she is responsible for transforming my face from regular cystic acne breakouts to flawless skin.

I have suffered from acne for most of my adult life. From the age of 15 I have been in and out of what seems like every Dermatologists office across the country, I am now 30. However, Dr. Clark has been the answer to my battle with acne. I used to get about 3 cystic spots on my face at a time, where I had to routinely go into a Doctor’s office and get a cortisone injection to treat it. I have spent a lot of money trying to treat my skin using laser treatments, medications, lotions etc. I was told by numerous highly regarded Dermatologists that Accutane was my only answer. I was strongly against going on this drug and turned to Dr. Clark for help.

Dr. Clark recommended that I do a series of Cool Touch Laser treatments, combined with medications and creams to get my skin on track. I was very skeptical about the Cool Touch Treatment as I felt that I had tried everything and that nothing could possibly work. However I trusted Dr. Clark and decided that I would try one last approach and signed up for the Cool Touch Laser treatments.

I completed my first round of laser treatments about 6 months ago and am cystic free. The results were absolutely amazing and not only do I rarely get cystic breakouts but the texture of my skin has improved tremendously. I still have to go in for some maintenance and continue to take my antibiotics and creams but cannot express how happy I am with the results. It has been life changing.

I cannot recommend Dr. Clark enough. She was the answer to my skin problems and because of her, I feel so much better both inside and out. The laser treatments are fairly expensive however they are worth every penny. I am a very discerning person and I honestly feel that Dr. Clark is one of the best dermatologists in her field. I would strongly recommend her to anyone who suffers from any type of skin problem.

Dr. Clark did not let me down

I’ve been to so many different dermatologists looking for answers to my skin issues (mainly cystic acne). I still remember in my first appointment, she asked me ‘When do you need to be clear by?’ and I thought ‘When? I haven’t been clear in 20 years and you think it’s a matter of when?’ Dr. Clark did not let me down – she didn’t go through the standard treatments like most doctors do and found something that worked for me almost immediately. I literally switched my health insurance provider so that I could continue to see Dr. Clark regularly. She gets my highest recommendation.

Excellent

After 3 decades of treatment resistant acne I was able to achieve essentially clear skin doing sebacia with Dr. Clark. Her entire team is excellent , skilled qualified courteous and extremely responsive to needs. Dr. Clark carefully monitored to find the appropriate energy level for the laser for my darker skin. Unlike some dermatologists, Dr Clark’s practice seems to have a lot of focus on acne and unlike some other places she takes a comprehensive, multifaceted approach, and really seems to want to find whatever it takes get people actually totally clear, which is not something I always sensed at prior dermatologists I have had, and she seems to attract people who have failed treatment at other places. Given my longstanding acne I have a lot of experience at different dermatology offices for over the past 10 years. I was surprised by how long she took for the initial appointment, and actually did not realize I needed to set aside more time for it. Her initial assessment was very detailed and went beyond what I am used to, with thorough assessments of things such as hormonal considerations and diet.
