At MD Skin Science, we dedicate ourselves to helping our patients look and feel better about their skin at any point in life. Our goal is to provide top-of-the-line cosmetic and non-surgical procedures to our patients to help them achieve fresher-looking skin they can feel comfortable and proud in. Using the latest combinations of technology and techniques, we can provide results that leave you looking and feeling brilliant.
How Microdermabrasion Can Improve Your Skin’s Appearance
Microdermabrasion works by precisely sanding away the upper layers of aging or damaged skin. It is a gentler form of a similar treatment called dermabrasion, and is open to a wide range of patients of all ages. Using a diamond-tip handpiece, we gently exfoliate dead or damaged cells away from the treatment area, suctioning them away immediately. We can adjust the amount of exfoliation to match what will give you the best results.
Once the damaged upper layer has been removed, your body can respond naturally by replacing it with healthy, fresher skin. When performed by a professional, microdermabrasion can improve your skin through:
- Improving overall texture and tone
- Removing or reducing blemishes (stretch marks, age spots, acne, acne scarring, sun spots)
- Reducing wrinkles and fine lines
- Improving complexion
- Reducing enlarged pores or blackheads
What Is the Treatment Like?
Because the exfoliation process is precise and minimal, most patients report an overall comfortable experience. During your treatment, we use a handheld device to gently exfoliate the skin you want treated. Then entire process is relatively quick, lasting about half an hour or less in most cases. For more complex treatments, the session can last for about an hour.
After your treatment, you should be fine to return to your daily life right away. However, some redness and swelling are to be expected, but they soon fade. Patients who have had treatment on their face may prefer to take a couple of days off while the skin returns to a less reddened tone. You may also experience some sensitivity at the treated area, so it will be important to care for it after a session. Avoid extensive sun, for example, and only use creams or makeups if they are gentle on your skin.

When Can I See Results?
Most of our patients in NYC report seeing visible improvements after a single microdermabrasion treatment session. However, the number of sessions until you see your final results can vary and depends on your unique treatment plan. In general, most patients need between 2-6 treatment sessions to reach their goals for their skin. These are usually spread out with a couple of weeks between sessions, so most patients will reach their final results in about 1-3 months.
After your final session, there will be one more period of quick healing before you can see your final results. Once you have completed your full treatment plan, your results should stay with you for a long time! However, it will continue to be important to take care of your skin. This means avoiding too much sun exposure, maintaining a healthy diet, and coming in for touch-up treatments.
